APPLICATIONS

The multifunctional CALIPRI C42 enables the combination of several inspection tasks (measurement modules) in one measurement device. For example, if you combine the modules for wheel profile, brake disk, wheel diameter and wheel clearance, you have a measurement device for evaluating a complete wheelset. In addition, you can use CALIPRI C42 to measure rail profile, switch, track geometry.

The “Wheel Profile” CALIPRI module evaluates the wear and dimensional accuracy of railway vehicles free from human error. The non-contact measurement devices are based on laser light section technology, thus ensuring highly accurate and reproducible measured data. In a matter of seconds, the most important measured variables appear on the sensor and are automatically compared to individual limit values. The actual and target contours are shown in color on the tablet PC.

The “Wheel Profile” module covers the measurement of a complete railway vehicle wheel profile cross section in the heavy and light rail sector. In addition to the essential flange measurements (height, thickness, cross dimension/qR), you can also measure wheel width, hollow tread and rollover. Simply guide the sensor manually over the measurement object. It is not necessary to exactly maintain the distance and angle to the wheel profile, as our patented CALIPRI method automatically compensates any rotations and tilts.

The “Wheel Diameter” CALIPRI module makes it possible to quickly and easily measure the rolling circle diameter of a railway vehicle, either mounted or after removal. The module includes a patented CFRP gage produced with lightweight technology, which makes it possible to carry out measurements even in difficult conditions on the mounted wheel. In a matter of seconds, all measured variables appear on the sensor and the tablet PC and are automatically compared to the limit values entered.

You need the “Wheel Diameter” module for highly precise rolling circle diameter measurements on your railway vehicles. You can also automatically calculate the diameter differentials of the axles, bogies and wagons. Combined with a lightweight but robust auxiliary gage, this results in a previously unknown measuring accuracy.

Brake Disc Measurement

BRAKE DISC PROFILE MEASURING WITHOUT CONTACT

Carry out highly precise measurements and evaluations of different brake disc types.

The “Brake Disc” CALIPRI C42 measurement module carries out non-contact evaluations of brake discs. Due to the laser light section technology, the compact measurement device is aligned with the brake disk without mechanical mounting. The sensor records the complete wear profile and clearly displays both actual and target values on the sensor and the tablet PC. In addition to essential measured variables, such as brake disc hollow tread and thickness, the system also measures wear stock and rippling in a matter of seconds. In this way, you can, for example, identify diagonal wear tendencies and take the appropriate precautions.

Thanks to the non-contact measurement technology, you now only need one measurement device to evaluate all common brake discs. This reduces acquisition costs and saves time during servicing. It also eliminates the need to laboriously apply individual templates or imprecise sliding gages. Even worn or dirty reference edges do not present a challenge. Measured data can be transferred digitally to eliminate possible errors in handwritten reports. The measurement device is designed as a modular system and measurement modules, such as the wheel profile measurement module, can be added.

Back-to-Back Measurement

BACK-TO-BACK DISTANCE MEASURING WITH AUTOMATIC EVALUATION

Lightweight CFRP gage makes it possibly to easily and precisely
measure wheel clearance, track and reference dimensions.

Technology – DIGITAL MEASUREMENTS WITH LIGHTWEIGHT AUXILIARY GAUGE

The “Back-to-Back” CALIPRI C42 module uses an optical measuring system and a carbon fiber reinforced polymer gage to measure track and standard dimensions and wheel clearance. In order to carry out the measurement, simply clamp the auxiliary gage between the wheels of one axle. Then use the CALIPRI sensor to measure at two measurement rings on the gage. The system automatically calculates the wheel clearance and compares it with the predefined limit values. The results are shown on the sensor display and are also available on the tablet PC for generating reports or a subsequent data export.

Manually calculating and comparing measured values to a limit value table is a thing of the past. Actual values are measured digitally and deviations from target values are highlighted in color on the tablet PC. Unlike conventional wheel clearance measurement devices, the CALIPRI auxiliary gage is lightweight and can be easily clamped between the wheels. The system can be used directly under the vehicle or on a wheelset which has been removed. The modular software concept makes it possible to combine wheel profile and wheel clearance measurements so that the track dimension can be evaluated automatically.

With the “Tire Thickness” module, you can measure the thickness of common tire types (heavy and light rail) in addition to wheel profile. Depending on the condition of the wheel, the included small magnetic auxiliary gage is attached to the inner or outer abutting face or to the wear groove. Tip: Provided that the inner tire diameter is known, it is also possible to calculate the rolling circle diameter using the tire thickness.

Rail Profile Measurement

RAIL CROSS PROFILE MEASUREMENT WITHOUT SURFACE CONTACT

Technology – NON-CONTACT EVALUATION OF RAILS AND GROOVED RAILS

The “Rail” CALIPRI C42 makes it possible to measure an entire rail head cross section and calculate the most important non-dimensional quantities and wear parameters in a matter of seconds. In addition to essential measurements, like rail head width and radius, vertical and lateral wear are determined through comparison with the standard profile. Due to the use of an optical measurement method, there is no need for error-prone contact with the rail surface. The measurement module is suitable for on-site rail head wear measurements, as well as final quality inspections of complete rail cross sections during production. The measurement results are clearly displayed on the sensor and the tablet PC.

The CALIPRI rail measurement device makes it possible to quickly and correctly evaluate all common rail profiles with a single hand movement and can be expanded with software modules. Thanks to the non-contact measurement operation, the results are user-independent. False readings from hard to read dials are now a thing of the past. After the measurement, any exceeded limits are highlighted in color on the tablet PC. SWITCH PROFILE MEASURING WITH MULTIFUNCTIONAL GAUGE

In the future, you will measure the profiles of your switches without any error in reading or aligning.

The CALIPRI C42 “Switch” module allows for the contact-free wear evaluation of switches/turnouts. An easy to handle and lightweight gauge (carbon fiber) facilitates thereby the gauge guidance. The camera-laser-system inside of the sensor records the profile of the switch frog or blade. Widths, depths, and grades are displayed on the sensor and tablet PC and compared with pre-defined limits.

Track Geometry Measurement

Evaluate track gauge, superelevation and rail cant of a track - with single gage positioning.

Technology – MAIN GEOMETRY DATA WITHIN SECONDS

The CALIPRI measurement module “Track Geometry” evaluates track gauge, superelevation and rail cant. Furthermore, it directly calculates the twist in order to detect irregularities on site and to initiate the necessary maintenance tasks directly. In combination with the Calipri measurement modules “Rail” and “Equivalent Conicity”, the user receives information on track geometry, rail wear and equivalent conicity values with only two measurements.

The measurement is carried out with the non-contact Calipri sensor using advanced laser light section technology and a handy GRP lightweight supporting gage. For this purpose, the gage is placed on the track and aligned at an angle of 90°. This enables the sensor to measure the rail profiles without having to turn the gage. The patented Calipri measuring principle allows not only the recording of the rail head, but also the entire rail cross section. The measured parameters are displayed on the tablet PC and on the sensor itself and can be compared with reference values. A traffic light system is used to make limit violations easily identifiable. After the measuring process, the operator can decide directly, whether measures must be taken in order to correct the track.
